Sabers Capture 2018 AAIS Indoor Team Championship

There was a buzz in the lobby as the True Blue clad indoor track student-athletes assembled to board the bus for the 2018 AAIS Indoor Track Championship at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. There was glitter, face paint, pre-meet jitters, but a definite vibe that the group was about to embark on a memorable journey together. As the team warmed-up on the oval, there was a clear sense of purpose. The Sabers had come to claim a title and it would take a total team effort in all 14 events to accomplish their collective goal of bringing home the Championship title and they were prepared for the challenge.
 
The bang of the starter’s pistol the meet began with the intense 4x800m relay. The relay team of senior, Sylvie P., juniors, Sara Rose S. and Amanda T. and freshman, Danielle P. set the tone for the Sabers’ title winning the event with a time of 10:56.80
 
The speed, strength and depth of the Sabers’ Indoor Track Team was on full display. Combined, the Sabers had a remarkable 17 top 3 finishes across the 14 championship events and scored points in 13 of the 14 events.
 
In the 55M sprint, 8th grader, Ismay A. captured 3rd place and sophomore, Lucy R. took home 4th place for a combined 10 team points. The twosome collected another 5 points in the 300m run with Ismay and Lucy finishing 5th and 6th respectfully.
 
In the 600M run, the juniors rounded up 16 team points with Esme L. winning the event and Sara Rose S. out leaning her opponent at the finish for 3rd place.
 
In the 1000, senior, Sylvie P. and junior, Amanda T. earned top 8 finishes with Sylvie collecting another point for the team’s coffer finishing 7th.
 
In the mile, Spence continue to stockpile the team points with junior, Eloise F. racing to a 3rd place finish with a time of 5:27.25 and sophomore, Caroline C.’s, 6th place finish garnered a combined 8 points. The distance duo paired up again in the 3200m Run for 9 more points with Eloise finishing 2nd and Caroline capturing 7th.
 
Seniors, Grace F. and Hannah Y. finished 2nd and 3rd in the 55m Hurdles for another 14 team points. Classmate, Laura F. brought home the gold in the Triple Jump with Cece J. taking third for a dominant 16 event points.
 
The Sabers’ continued dominance in the jumps and throws featured, Lucy R., Ismay A. and Cece J. finishing 1-3-5 in the Long Jump for 19 event points. Followed by a clean sweep of the Shot Put with sophomore Hadley H., Laura F. and freshman, Ashley C. going 1-2-3 to stash 24 points for the team.
 
The Sabers’ put the finish touches on their golden night, with the 4x200m Relay and the 4x400m Relay teams following the path of the 4x800m Relay team in the night’s opening event.
 
The 4x200m Relay team of Ismay A., Hanna Y., Lucy R. and Laura F. ran a blazing 1:55.66 to capture 1st with a lean at the finish. Capping off the evening in dramatic style was the 4x200m Relay team of Sara Rose S., Esme L., Cece J. and Eloise F. The team was staked to an early lead by Sara Rose and each leg worked to extend the lead as Eloise took the anchor leg, just moments after completing the 3200 for an incredible back to back event double. Closing out the event by “running fast and taking chances, the Sabers’ 4x400m relay time of 4:30.98 was 7 seconds faster than their closest opponents.
 
The team’s collective efforts made a powerful statement as the group left no doubt that they were there to run, jump, throw and race together! Proving there is nothing more powerful than a pack of Sabers on the hunt and together they brought home their prize!
