4x400m Relay Makes HERstory at Penn Relays
Spence's first ever appearance at The Penn Relays was a memorable one. The meet, first held in 1895 is widely viewed as THE premier Track & Field competition in the country, featuring high school, collegiate and professional competitors from across the US. The Spence 4x400m Relay made the most of their moment on big stage, returning with some Penn Relays hardware!
Competing in the Girls' Prep School division of the 4x400m Relay, the Sabers raced to place on the podium, collecting 2nd place with a time of 4:03.08, just a mere second from their school record time, set at the NYC Mayor's Cup earlier this month.
The foursome of Natalie B.(1:00.07), Keishan C. (1:03.03), Sophie A. (59.74) and Frances L. (1:00.26) powered their way past the likes of Lawrenceville, Episcopal, Sidwell Friends, Hackley, The Hill School and others. Only Providence Day (Charlotte, NC) were able to best the Sabers in their HERstoric run at Franklin Field, on hte campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
The Penn Relays: "Through 116 editions of the meet, more athletes have run at the Penn Relays than at any single meet in the world. More spectators have watched the meet than any in the world except the Olympics and World Championships."
