Middle School Ethics Club Participates in their First Ethics Bowl
There is much to celebrate and be proud of for the brand new Middle School Ethics Club, which started just this year with nine students and is led by Middle School Science Teacher, Laura Bader. After months of preparation and excitement, the Ethics Club participated in the Middle School NJ-NY Regional Ethics Bowl hosted by The Ethics Institute at the Kent Place School. One Spence team won the Margot Meyer Award for Ethical Excellence.
Modeled after the National High School Ethics Bowl, the Middle School Ethics Bowl provides an opportunity for teams of students to collaboratively yet rigorously analyze and discuss both timeless and timely ethical dilemmas. The event brings together students from differing backgrounds and communities who wish to explore the best answers to life's most meaningful questions. It rewards open-mindedness, curiosity, humility and mutual respect.
During each round of the event, two teams are presented with an ethical case and question. After conferring with teammates, students engage with the opposing team through open dialogue and discussion before a panel of three judges. Spence students were supported and cheered on by families and teachers who traveled to the event.
The Spence community is so proud of the Middle School Ethics Club for their determination, positive attitude and commitment to the cause of ethical thinking!
