Spence Track and Field Led AAIS Pack at NYSAIS Championships!

The Sabers showed that big cats love to play in the sun, taking to the Icahn Stadium track in the blistering heat on Wednesday and capturing fifth place overall, the top team finish of any of the AAIS league schools competing at the event. Truly, in the spirit of the pack, the Sabers were there to support one another in the challenging conditions, embodying the spirit of being a part of something bigger than themselves! Every performance was an opportunity to score for their team and the Sabers warmed to the task, jumping, throwing and running for the Blue and earning some gold along the way. The team collected a school record, 15 marks that ranked among the top 15 performers, and seven event medals in all.

In the field events, sophomore Laura F. picked up two medals, one each in the Discus and Triple Jump. Junior Ava H. was a medalist in the Shot Put with the top performance of any AAIS student-athlete. And classmate Natalie B. collected two individual medals, one in the 200M Dash and event gold in the 400M Hurdles. Freshman Maggie H. collected the Sabers second gold medal of the day, winning the 800M Run. The Sabers 4x400M Relay of freshman Esme L., junior Natalie B. freshman Eloise F. and freshman Maggie H. closed out the sparkling team performance with a bronze medal in the day’s final event.

Congratulations to the Track and Field team for a memorable end to a remarkable spring season. Good luck to NY State Federation qualifiers Natalie B. and Maggie H. who will represent NYSAIS, AAIS and Spence as champions in the 400M Hurdles and 800M Run. Both will compete at the NY Federation Championship at North Cicero High School in Syracuse, NY, on June 10, in the final event of the 2015-2016 Spence Athletics campaign.
