The Spence School has made a strong commitment through the financial aid program to reach out to students who show intellectual promise regardless of their economic situation. Financial aid allows enrollment of the best students across the socio-economic spectrum and helps create a more diverse student body. It makes for a teaching and learning experience that is much stronger.
Approximately 20% of our students receive financial aid. Grants are given on the basis of need, and each case receives individual consideration based on information provided by the family and School and Student Services (SSS). Grants range from $5,000 to $54,000 depending on need. Every family is expected to make a financial contribution towards tuition. Spence also makes available a monthly tuition payment plan. Access to the SSS Family Portal for 2020-2021 will be available on October 2. Financial aid applications for current and prospective families are due by December 1.

Spence’s financial aid program provides assistance for qualified families from all backgrounds who might not otherwise be able to attend Spence. The Admissions Office is available to discuss the financial aid application process.
While the Admissions Office processes applications for admission as well as for financial assistance, admission decisions are separate from financial aid decisions. We work within a budget; however, we are often able to offer generous financial aid packages to families who qualify for aid. Financial assistance at Spence is entirely need-based.
The Spence School adheres to a long-standing policy of admitting students of any race, color, religion, sexual orientation and national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the School. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual orientation or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship or athletic and other school-administered programs.
