Spence Homecoming Weekend a ROARING Success!

For the first time since 2019, Spence was able to unite K-12 students to "Saber The Moment" of celebrating community together! Pawesome events throughout the week in all three divisions, it was clear the Spence spirit was back in True Blue form! Spence student-athletes from all Upper School fall teams, Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Soccer, Varsity Tennis, JV and Varsity Volleyball sparked the spirit, speaking at Middle School Assembly, joining in with Lower School poster making, and speaking at Lower School Community Time!

It is imPAWssible to overstate the immense Spence pride and community spirit on display throughout the week! From the SP cheer echoing in the Lower School to the Middle School poster and photo caption contests to the Upper School students, led by the Class of ’23, turning out to support their peers, and the entire families of Spence administrators, faculty and staff roaring at games on Friday and Saturday, to alumnae proudly watching the live streams and cheering on the True Blue from their campuses - the ROAR of the Sabers could be heard far and wide!

On Friday, the Varsity Tennis Team kicked off the Homecoming weekend with their continued pursuit of PAWFECTION, and a dominating league best 4th consecutive 5-0 victory over an AAIS opponent. The team’s depth and competitiveness are honed each day as each and every Saber strives to bring the best out in each other and lift the team to new and exciting heights as they are on the hunt for their 2nd consecutive AAIS Championship!

The Sabers Varsity Soccer Team ROARED to the field at Asphalt Green for Soccer on Friday! In front of 400+ frenzied fans, the largest Homecoming soccer crowd in a decade, and fueled by the relentless energy supplied by the boisterous return of the Lower and Middle School fans, the Sabers pawformance was nothing short of FIERCE and courageous! With two strong teams clawing for every inch of turf, Spence pressed throughout the first half, capitalizing on a build-up play and finishing a gritty scoring opportunity for a 1-0 lead at half-time. In the second half it was all about the team’s signature lockdown team defense and goalkeeping by the Sabers. With the game on the line, the True Blue turned away their opponents, time and time again, maintaining their poise and composure. After a true TEAM victory, the PAWTY was on in midfield as the Sabers’ faithful celebrated with their team.

On Saturday, sandwiched between two outstanding volleyball games, the Spence community came together for the first ever tailgate at Spence 412! With Spence 412 hosting more than 400 fans on Saturday, the JV Volleyball and Varsity Volleyball teams gave The Pack plenty of reasons to raise the roof!

Despite dropping a hard fought 1-2 decision, the JV Volleyball Team played a strong match and fought for every point with long rallies and strong serving. While it was their first loss in league play, the JV team will continue their pursuit of a tournament high seed in the second half of their season, for an opportunity to play in OUR HOUSE in front of the Sabers’ faithful! The JV team will look to put lessons learned on Saturday into their return to the 412 court on Monday vs. league rival, Brearley.

Capping off the weekend, the Varsity Volleyball Team took to the court in front of a packed house at Spence 412! The Sabers pounced on their opponents early and never looked back, using their aggressive serves to dictate the pace and rhythm of the match in a dominant 3-0 victory. The Sabers are on a run of five consecutive victories, powered by their team depth and the willingness of each player to compete and challenge each other to be the best team they play. The very best teams celebrate and recognize that every member of the team contributes to the success of the group. The drills done on Tuesday and each player’s investment in bringing their personal best to the court each day translates to “The Dub” on Saturday. The best teams are only as strong as the unselfish willingness of each member of the team to invest in the goals of the team and the recognition by their teammates of the work done by each player when the fans are not in the stands! These Sabers are one of those teams, working together to Saber The Moment!

Congratulations to the entire Spence Community for your IMPAWSSIVE celebration of Community and Spence Spirit! It is truly a special time to be a Saber and it is only the beginning!🐯
