Spence Junior Selected for New York Philharmonic Young People’s Concert
Violinist and Spence junior Fiona K. '25 was selected to debut with the New York Philharmonic for the 100th season of its Young People’s Concert, a series made famous by conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein. The program included selections from Mendelssohn, Bernstein and music from Peter Pan, among other pieces.
“Growing up in New York City, I have gone to countless NY Philharmonic concerts and listened to many of their recordings all my life, so it was absolutely a dream come true to be able to perform with such amazing musicians in their Young People’s Concert and in the incredible David Geffen Hall,” Fiona said of the achievement. “This year marked the centennial anniversary of the Young People’s Concert series, which I have also gone to many times as a child, so it was a special full-circle moment that I was so excited and honored to experience.”
The spotlight is nothing new for Fiona: she began studying violin at age four, is currently enrolled in the Juilliard Pre-College program, and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, London, and more, including a recent performance in the presence of King Charles III.
