Varsity Basketball Concludes Season in AAIS Quarterfinal

The Varsity Basketball Team entered the AAIS Tournament as the #7 seed, the team’s highest regular season finish in the last three years, due in no small part to the outstanding on and off court leadership of the team’s lone senior, Adia Klein.

Adia’s buzzer beating basket against Nightingale, earlier in the season catapulted the Sabers to their first win over NBS in four years and put the team in the best position to finish in the league’s top 8 teams. The Sabers doubled their win total from a year ago, with high energy defense and a commitment to playing an up-tempo style, requiring complete buy-in from all members of the team. With Adia leading with her daily example of “team first” leadership and on the scoreboard averaging 10.3 points per game.

The Sabers faced-off against #2 Convent of the Sacred Heart in the AAIS Quarterfinal on Monday, February 13, dropping a tough decision. However, it was the team’s vast improvement from their regular season match-up only a week ago that best exhibited their commitment to come out to compete at the top of their game every day. The Sabers pressured CSH out of their rhythm on the offensive end of the floor, forcing CSH to look for third and fourth options and fight for every contested point.

Throughout the season, the Sabers balanced the floor with Marissa Fine’s outside shooting threat and Livia McPhee pushing tempo up the floor. In the paint, Emma van Brugge and Ryann Ritcher provided the deterrent to opposing teams driving the lane and worked to collect valuable rebounds on both ends of the floor. Lending valuable contributions to the team’s success each day, were Lucy Reid, Emma Hale, Siew Teng Ong, Jo Harkless, Kinara Phillips, Natalia Chino, Sophia Nunn and Kyla Butts.

Congratulations to the Sabers on a successful season!
