Sabers' Drop Heartbreaker 4-3 in US Squash Semifinal
The Sabers’ put up a valiant fight but ultimately were edged 4-3 in the US Squash Nationals Division IV Semifinal by Poly Prep.
Spence was again staked to a 2-0 lead with wins 3-0 by juniors, Alexandra Koskosidis and Mikaela Belsky. Poly stormed back to take a 3-2 lead with wins in closely contested matches, defeating senior Isabel Merrell, junior, Kristen Harris and sophomore, Amanda Yang. Senior co-captain, Alden Terry captured a hard fought win to even the match at 3-3. In the deciding match, junior, Alex Chung was not able to force her way past a feisty opponent, despite forcing two of the 3 games to extended points.
The Sabers will play for a final time in the tournament on Sunday, February 8th at 10am vs. Westover School (Middlebury, CT) in the playoff to determine 3rd and 4th place in the Division IV National Draw.
A most impressive run for the Sabers will continue tomorrow as they will represent Spence with pride and moxie setting a TRUE BLUE standard of excellence for the program.
