Grade 4 Students Perform Interdisciplinary Dance Presentation

As a culmination of a social studies unit on immigration, Grade 4 students choreographed and performed an expressive four-section dance presentation for families and faculty, titled “Our History in Movement: Goodbyes, Encounters and Passages.”

The interdisciplinary project wove dance into the Grade 4 social studies curriculum, which focuses on the concepts of why people move, the myriad factors that influence immigration and the benefits and challenges of resettling. Students gained inspiration from dance units exploring kinesphere spatial movement and the José Limón technique. Students drew on the curricular texts, field trip experiences and historical research from the unit to help choreograph their pieces.
