Grade 3
In Grade 3, students begin to think more abstractly and gain a fuller understanding of the past. This growth allows more complex aspects of literacy, social studies and mathematics to be taught. The students continue to build their sense of self and others as they explore their role as citizens of the School and their broader community. K–4 teachers help establish their classroom community within the first six weeks of school and throughout the year. As part of the Responsive Classroom practice, students help to create their classroom rules, engage in morning meetings and use collaborative problem-solving strategies. Students are encouraged to care for themselves, one another and their school community.
