In 2025 the Sabers will return to the pitch, no longer an underdog, but having won AAIS Soccer Championships in 2021, 2019, and finishing the 2023 season as the AAIS Tournament Runner-Up.

 

In 2024 the Sabers advanced to the NYSAIS Quarterfinals for the 3rd time, by defeating the 2024 NYSAIS Champion Horace Mann in the opening round of the NYSAIS Tournament.  In 2025, the Sabers will be a youthful group, but still boasting returning league all-stars anchoring the midfield, complimented by talented playmakers and their trademark stingy defense.  

 

In both 2021 and 2019 the Sabers took a talented and seasoned group and utilized their collective experience to elevate the program to the next level, achieving their long-standing goal of a league title. It was the culmination of years of hard work and investment in a process designed for long term success. Most impressive was their 2021 AAIS Championship titles, returning after the year’s COVID hiatus.

 

Practice will be Monday through Friday on Randall’s Island. Athletes are required to supply their own shin guards and to wear sport-appropriate footwear (molded cleats or turf shoes).

 

Tennis

Home of the Sabers: 2024 AAIS Regular Season Champions, Tournament Runner-up; 2023, and 2022 Undefeated Seasons and AAIS Regular Season and Tournament Champions!

 

In 2025, the Sabers tennis team will look to their youth, having graduated a group of seniors who were undefeated in AAIS regular season play for their entire careers.

 

As they did in 2024, Spence will again rely on its balanced play between both singles and doubles.  As long been the tradition of Spence tennis, versatile players capable of playing either singles or doubles have added depth and strength throughout the Spence line-up, leading the program to be one of the most consistently high achieving AAIS Tennis teams over the past 5 seasons.

 

In 2018, the Sabers took the AAIS Tennis tournament by storm, entering as the No. 6 seed and upsetting the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds on their way to finishing as tournament runner-up. In 2018, Spence was undefeated at the No. 1 singles position for the first time in more than five years. 

 

Regular season matches include singles and doubles play, and athletes will be expected to employ high level of competitive strategies in all forms of match play.

 

The team practices and competes at various venues throughout NYC. As is the case with all of our varsity teams, tennis is a Monday-through-Friday commitment. Athletes are required to supply their own racquets and to wear tennis court shoes.
