Families should use these checklists as guidelines for the application process.

  1. Tour and interview for parents and student (Please submit an inquiry form prior to contacting our office to schedule a tour and interview.)

  2. Applicants to Grade 9 have the option of a Spence Experience Visit

  3. Submit application and fee to Spence (November 15 deadline)

  4. Send Permission to Release Records form to current school

  5. Current school provides school records/transcripts

  6. Current school submits English, Math and Guidance Counselor/General Recommendations

  7. Schedule Spence-administered assessment test before November 15

  8. Educational Records Bureau (ISEE) test or SSAT test. It is strongly suggested that your daughter complete standardized testing by December 15.

  9. You can check the status of your application to Spence by logging on to your account with the username and password provided to your during the submission of your application.

Please do not send personal letters of recommendation. First-choice letters are not encouraged.

Assessment Tests

Spence administers an in-house test to students applying to Grades 9-11:

  • Prior to November 15, parents must call our office to schedule the test(s), which are administered on designated dates from mid-October to mid-January

  • Testing takes place between 4 and 6 p.m. in the 91st Street Building

  • Applicants take both an English and a Math test
