Families should use these checklists as guidelines for the application process.

  1. Tour and interview for parents and student (Please submit an inquiry form prior to contacting our office to schedule a tour and interview.)

  2. Submit application and fee to Spence (November 15 deadline)

  3. Send Permission to Release Records form to current school

  4. Current school provides school records/transcripts for applicants to Grades 5-8

  5. Current school submits ISAAGNY Confidential Recommendation for Middle School Applicants from BOTH English and Math teachers. *Please note, if the English and Math teacher is the same person, submit one form; if different, have each subject teacher complete a recommendation.

  6. Schedule Spence-administered assessment test by November 15

  7. Educational Records Bureau (ISEE) test or SSAT test. It is strongly suggested that your daughter complete standardized testing by December 15.

  8. You can check the status of your application to Spence by logging on to your account with the username and password provided to you during the submission of your application. 
 
Please do not send personal letters of recommendation. First-choice letters are not encouraged.

Assessment Tests

Spence administers an in-house test to students applying to Grades 9-11:

  • Prior to November 15, parents must call our office to schedule the test(s), which are administered on designated dates from mid-October to mid-January

  • Testing takes place between 4 and 6 p.m. in the 91st Street Building

  • Applicants take both an English and a Math test
