Director of Instrumental Music

Spence’s Performing Arts Department seeks an accomplished and visionary educator to lead the school’s Instrumental Music Program. Understanding the importance, nature, scope, and impact of our events and performances within the community, the Director of Instrumental Music will work with fellow Performing Arts colleagues to fulfill our mission of nurturing imagination and self-expression in a collaborative environment.

  • Coordinate and supervise all private instrumental lessons K-12
  • Create, coordinate, and supervise student chamber ensemble and orchestra programs
  • Teach instrumental music in some capacity
  • Manage schedules, budgets, payroll, signups, and website
  • Supervise care and maintenance of school instruments
  • Work as part of a larger team of music teachers across divisions to coordinate and implement curriculum
  • Finds joy in working with children and in school life
  • Leads with energy, kindness and a sense of humor
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Supports Spence’s commitment to equity
  • Has sustained teaching experience with K-12 students
  • Has experience as a professional instrumental musician
  • Demonstrates the ability to foster sustained collaboration and professional growth in a team
  • Has an advanced degree or equivalent professional experience

  • Possesses strong writing, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates tact and professionalism working with a variety of constituencies
