Sabers' Upset Bid Falls Short in NYSAISAA Volleyball Quarterfinal

The #5 Sabers’ Volleyball team was in the Halloween spirit, trying to throw a scare into NYSAISAA quarterfinal host, #4 Trinity. In game 1, it was definitely more tricks than treats for Spence, as they struggled to find their rhythm early and found themselves chasing the play.

As the game went on, the Sabers settled into more confident play and senior, Ava F. poured on the treats, with thundering kills, over, around and through the opponents’ blockers; mixing in her trademark finesse shots, keeping the Trinity defense on their heels.  Senior, Bailey M. was racing around the court, forcing the tempo of play to align with the Sabers’ comfort zone. The back and forth affair of game 2 served notice that Spence would not go quietly and they were going to fight to the end.

In game 3, the Sabers continued their push of tempo and Ava’s attack when wholly unanswered. Strong passing from sophomores Alyssa d.M. and Alex B. and frenetic rallies featuring never-say die play from juniors, Tatum D. and Meg Y., sophomores, Rhea A. and Ada C. and freshman, Tessa D.

The Sabers were unable to steal that pivotal third game, their upset bid falling short to end a tremendously successful season.

Congratulations to the Sabers and thanks to everyone for all of the tremendous support this season.
