TODAY!!!! Friday, October 19: Varsity Field Hockey vs. Brearley, 4:15 p.m. at Asphalt Green
There is no better way to end the week than a walk down to Asphalt Green on a beautiful Autumn day to watch Field Hockey in their final home game vs. Brearley! Juniors, Katie R. and Elizabeth W., sophomore, Laura T. and freshmen, Lila S. and Evelyn W. comprise the Spence part of the “Sperrymount” field hockey team; formed by the combining of field hockey student-athletes from Spence and Marymount for a single team. Already with a win against The Masters School in their claws, the team will look to build upon their strong “pawformance” against Chapin from earlier this week to capture a victory against Brearley today! Don’t miss out!

Monday, October 22: AAIS Quarterfinal Rounds for Varsity Soccer and Varsity Volleyball
With league games remaining in both sports today, the Sabers have assured themselves a high seed for the AAIS Quarterfinal round. It has been an exciting fall for both teams, packed with youthful talent and led by seasoned, savvy veterans.

Varsity Soccer
finished the AAIS regular season with a record of 6 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw, one of the most successful AAIS performances in the last decade for the Sabers. Led by the experienced core of seniors, Marissa F., Sam H., Esme L. and Emma v.B. and junior stalwarts, Caroline S. and Indira T., the 14 sophomores and freshmen have made impressive contributions. Sophomore, Malia K. is league’s leading scorer and among the all-time leaders in career scoring at Spence. For the Sabers, 8 of the 14 underclassmen have started at various points during the season, demonstrating the talent, depth and versatility of the team’s youth. The Sabers will play on Randall’s Island on Monday, October 22, at 3:30 p.m. The opponent and exact field location are still to be determined, but the game will likely feature a rematch against an opponent from one of the team’s two most exciting victories of the season, facing either Nightingale or Marymount. If the Sabers win on Monday, they will advance to the AAIS Semifinal in back-to-back years, a first for the program in the last 15 years.

Varsity Volleyball finished their regular season in a tie for second in the AAIS, with a league record of 8 wins and 2 losses and is on the prowl for another shot at an AAIS title. Seniors, Ava F. and Bailey M. have been program cornerstones, starting throughout their four years and never failing to reach the league final. Juniors, Tatum D. and Meghan Y. bring balance to another impressively talented youthful squad. There are 7 freshmen and sophomores who join the 4 upperclassmen in the up-tempo, balanced and creative game that has long been the signature of the Sabers. The Sabers will play host to Brearley on Monday, October 22, at 4:15 p.m. at the 93rd Street Gym. Get there EARLY to pack the Sabers’ Den and show your True Blue spirit!!

Tuesday, October 23: AAIS Quarterfinal Round for JV Volleyball
The JV Volleyball team is peaking at exactly the right time, playing their best volleyball in the last week of the season. With numerous tie-breakers still needed to determine tournament seeding and opponent, the Sabers have done what they needed to do to secure a spot in the AAIS Quarterfinal. With four seniors, Sarah H., Jade K., Ruby L. and Ryann R. providing composed leadership throughout the season, the 9 underclassmen have grown and flourished in an environment primed for risk taking and game learning opportunities. The Sabers will learn the location, time and quarterfinal opponent over the weekend…stay tuned!!

Monday, October 29: AAIS Varsity Cross Country Championship; 3 p.m., Van Cortlandt Park
To say this season has been the pinnacle of the Varsity Cross Country team’s short history, would be an understatement. In only the 10th season of the program’s existence, the Sabers were in the hunt for the program’s first regular season championship, down to the final race and the final point. Spence is led by seniors, Eloise F., Charlotte G., Sara Rose S. and Amanda T. Last fall, Eloise became only the second Saber harrier to qualify for the prestigious Federation Cross Country Championship and is among the league’s elite. There are 5 juniors and 5 more underclassmen that add depth and experience to rounding out the most versatile group of distance runners in Spence history. The Sabers will be taking to the challenging terrain of Van Cortlandt Park at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 29, looking to claw their way to the program’s first Cross Country league title. Stay tuned for Fan Bus information for those with last period free on Monday, October 29, and looking to show their True Blue spirit!
