Families should use these checklists as guidelines for the application process.

1. Submit an inquiry form

2. Contact Admissions Office to schedule a campus visit
    • Student-led tour, followed by interview attended by applicant and parent(s).
    • Spence Experience visit  Applicant spends an afternoon with a Spence Buddy, attends two classes and has an interview. (Space is limited. To schedule a Spence Experience visit, an application is required. Parents will be contacted to schedule a visit on a separate day.)
3. Submit Permission to Release Records to applicant's current school

4. Request English, Math and Guidance Counselor recommendation(s)

5. Schedule Spence Administered assessment test(s)

6. Register for ISEE or SSAT test (Strongly suggested that your daughter complete standardized testing by December 15.)

7. You can check the status of your application to Spence by logging on to your account with the username and password

Please do not send personal letters of recommendation. First-choice letters are not encouraged.

Assessment Tests

Spence administers an in-house test to students applying to Grades 5-8:

  • Prior to November 15, parents must call our office to schedule the test(s), which are administered on designated dates from mid-October to December

  • Testing takes place between 4 and 6 p.m. in the 91st Street Building

  • Applicants to Grades 6-8 take both an English and a Math test. Applicants to Grade 5 only take an English test.
