Congratulations to Sidra Bell ’97: 2022 Distinguished Alumna Award Recipient

The Distinguished Alumna Award recipient for 2022 is acclaimed dancer and choreographer Sidra Bell ’97, who will be honored at this year’s Alumnae Reunion luncheon for her extraordinary, sustained support and service to Spence and for her professional achievements. Notably, Bell made history this past fall, when she became the first Black woman to choreograph work for the New York City Ballet, and will be in conversation about her work this week with Kathryn Rozak of Danse Lumière.

Bell’s ever-growing list of accomplishments also includes founding her own nonprofit dance troupe and choreographing over 100 works, notably for BODYTRAFFIC, Ailey II, The Juilliard School, and many others. She has also been a pedagogue at many prestigious programs for dance and theater, including University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Jacob’s Pillow, and more. Bell, a member of the Reunion Committee celebrating her 25th Reunion this year, has a deep commitment to Spence and upholds the mission and values of our School, truly exemplifying our School motto, “non scholae sed vitae discimus.”

Congratulations to Sidra Bell for this well-deserved accolade!
