Spence Model Congress Finishes Successful Year with 44 Awards

It has been a banner year for Spence’s Model Congress team, which has received 44 awards from a host of competitions, including the prestigious Princeton Model Congress, Yale Model Congress, University of Pennsylvania Model Congress and more. Building upon last year’s  success, in which the Spence delegation earned a Best Rising Delegation Award at the Princeton Model Congress, the team scored an Honorable Mention for Best Delegation at the Yale Model Congress as well as numerous Best Delegate Awards this year.

“We have taken advantage of the year’s virtual forums to attend more conferences than ever, a testament to the delegation’s resiliency and commitment,” shared Model Congress head Ana Lucia M. ’22. The team also remained committed to strong research and preparations in advance of each conference. Delegates must complete a comprehensive analysis on issues the country is currently facing and draft bills to address them, Ana Lucia explained, noting that  “Delegates prepare a piece of original legislation addressing the subject of their committee, ranging from Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs to Science, Space, and Technology to Foreign Affairs.”

At the conference, delegates present their bill to their committee and engage in robust debates about their proposed legislation. Bills are then voted on, with the most contentious going on to be debated in a Full Session of Congress.
