The Spence School Welcomes Rachael Flores

The Spence School welcomes Rachael Flores, our new Head of Upper School. For the last five years, Ms. Flores has served as the Director of Diversity and Multicultural Education at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., where she also led the Teaching and Learning Center. Prior to her work at the National Cathedral School, Ms. Flores held both administrative and teaching positions at the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, and the Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina. Throughout her 14 years of experience, Ms. Flores has also led workshops and professional development nationally, some of which have been with the National Association of Independent Schools. She is a graduate of Princeton University and George Washington University.
“We are, indeed, lucky to have her join our school and to shepherd our Upper School students and their families with both thoughtfulness and dedication,” shared Head of School Bodie Brizendine in her welcome letter. “She believes strongly in the promise of every scholar within the mission of an all-girls education.”
Ms. Flores, who started her new position at Spence on July 1, shared the following with the Spence community: “While my introduction to Spence thus far has been all online, there is nothing ‘virtual’ about the sense of community and acceptance I have felt. This community is a gift, and I am grateful to be part of it.”
