Spence Alum Receives Swarthmore College’s Prestigious Latin Award
Amelie Ya Deau ’16 has received the Susan P. Cobbs Scholarship for being the “most outstanding student of classics” in her graduating class at Swarthmore College.
Amelie recently shared the news and her gratitude with her longtime Spence teacher, Cornell Owesny: “I wanted to let you know about this because I wouldn’t have received this award without you.”
Noting that receiving the award was a “pleasant surprise,” she shared with Owesny that:
“It was because of the amazing experience that I had studying Latin in middle and high school that I continued to pursue the subject as a second major in college. I feel so fortunate to have taken Latin with you all those years, and I know that my former Spence classmates feel the same way.”
Amelie is graduating from Swarthmore this spring with a double major in biology and Latin. Congratulations, Amelie!
