Theater Teacher

Part-time (75%) position to begin August 2019
The Spence School seeks an accomplished and visionary theater teacher to join our innovative and highly collaborative department.

  • Direct two Upper School productions
  • Teach one section of Middle or Upper School Drama
  • Participate in department-wide initiatives about issues of equity, pedagogy, and curriculum
  • Serve as Middle or Upper School advisor
  • Finds joy in working with children and in school life
  • Approaches work with optimism, energy, kindness, and a sense of humor
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Supports Spence’s commitment to equity
  • Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team
  • Enjoys a commitment that extends beyond the classroom, including contributions to the larger school community
  • Demonstrates pedagogical skill, an appreciation for the science and the craft of teaching, and love of theater as a discipline
  • Has sustained experience teaching Middle or Upper School Theater
  • Has demonstrated experience in professional theater
  • Has production and directorial experience and an understanding of technical aspects of theater
  • Possesses an advanced degree or equivalent experience
