Middle and Upper School Physical Education Teacher

Full-time position to begin August 2019
 
Overview
Our innovative Physical Education program has a full-time opening for a Middle and Upper School Physical Education teacher to begin in September 2019.
 
This position represents the opportunity to join a team dedicated to versatility in teaching practices as well as innovative program development. Candidates should be excited to work in a collaborative, cooperative environment, have the initiative towards visionary growth and the ability to implement a broad and diversified curriculum.
 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Teach skills in fitness, individual, dual, team sports, and lifetime activities, Grades 5-12
  • Implement teaching strategies that address social and emotional competencies
  • Work with other members of the physical education faculty to plan instructional goals and objectives using a variety of methodologies
  • Design, plan and implement lessons based on Shape America National Standards
  • Evaluate student performance and communicate assessment through narrative written reports
  • Coach on the Middle and/or Varsity level at least one season
  • Serve as a Middle School or Upper School Advisor
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education required Master’s preferred
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience
  • Knowledgeable of current trends in the field of Physical Education
  • Demonstrates pedagogical skill and an appreciation for the science and the craft of teaching
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Supports Spence’s commitment to equity
