Sabers Make a Racquet as Badminton and Tennis Advance to AAIS Semis

It was a great day to be a Saber, as both Badminton and Tennis roared to victory in their AAIS Quarterfinal matches, advancing to their semifinal matches.

In Badminton, at 93rd Street, the battle of the big cats saw the #2 Sabers pounce on the #7 Marymount Lions with a decisive 7-0 victory. Singles 1-4 and Doubles 1-3 each won in straight sets for a clean sweep. The Sabers will next face neighborhood rival, Nightingale in the semis on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Spence 93rd Street Gym. Spence defeated NBS by identical 4-3 scores in the regular season, setting up an exciting match for the right to play in Thursday’s AAIS Championship! Come show your Spence, True Blue spirit and ROAR the team to victory at the 93rd Street Sabers’ Den!

In Tennis, #3 Spence faced #6 Chapin, a team that would, as they had just weeks earlier, again test the Sabers’ grit and resolve. All three singles matches featured outstanding tennis, but the match of the day was  #1 Doubles! With the Spence tandem of senior, Mabel L. and sophomore, Alyssa d.M. trailing 4-7, the partners clawed their way back with teamwork, mental toughness and resiliency to win their match 9-7, sending the Sabers into the AAIS Semifinal at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Sporttime Randall’s Island.
