Sabers’ XC Prepares to Take a Run at AAIS Title on Monday

On the heels of their first appearance at the Brown University Northeast Invitational, Spence will take to the challenging Van Cortlandt Park course on Monday, October 29, at 3 p.m., with their eyes on capturing the school’s first AAIS Cross Country team title.
Last Saturday, the Sabers finished 4th in the field of 17 teams in the Girls’ Varsity Division I race at the Brown University Northeast Invitational at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick, RI. Led by senior, Eloise F.’s 4th place individual finish in the field of 116 competitors, the team’s impressive showing was excellent preparation for the highly competitive field that awaits them in Monday’s AAIS Championship.
The Sabers will need a full team performance to outdistance the league competition. In the Cross Country Championship, 7 runners represent the team, with the place finish of the top 5 runners being reflected in the team’s score, the place of the 6th and 7th runners breaking ties for the team’s score. The lower the team score, the better the team performance, and Spence will look to surpass the program’s best league Championship finish of 3rd place from two years ago.
Joining Eloise in the Sabers’ chase for the team title will be classmates, Sara Rose S. and Amanda T., juniors, Caroline C., Emma H. and Hadley H. and sophomore Brooke P., all with one thing on their mind…Run Fast and Take Chances!
Go Sabers!
