College Counseling

Finding the right fit

The process of applying to college is an exciting opportunity for each student to explore the many options available and match them with her strengths and interests.

Above all, this process is about finding a good fit between the college and the student and encourages students to look closely to find the kind of academic and social environment that will make them most fulfilled. In the last five years, Spence students have attended over 65 different colleges across the nation and abroad.

Spence offers a personalized and comprehensive college counseling program that begins in January of the junior year. The Director of College Counseling is a full-time faculty member who meets individually with all juniors and seniors and their parents, in addition to holding weekly college seminars. In Junior Seminar, students start to identify their own interests and talents while beginning their search for colleges that are a good fit. In Senior Seminar, students learn about writing essays, filling out applications, interviewing, scholarships and financial aid, and meeting with college representatives visiting Spence’s campus.
