Stimulating, hands-on activities"
Spence is committed
to offering students varied opportunities for extracurricular activities. The
school believes that participation in extracurricular activities enables
students to develop talents that may find little expression in the classroom.
Second Act
Second Act offers children in the Lower School the opportunity to
participate in a variety of stimulating, hands-on activities after school.
Children may register for classes from one day to five days per week, with
different classes offered each day. Recent offerings have included gymnastics, jewelry
making, drama, chorus, science, art, woodworking, martial arts and swimming. Children
enrolled in Second Act may stay as late as 6:00 PM on Monday through Thursday,
and until 4:30 on Fridays. All Second Act programs are co-ed and open to
students and siblings from other schools.
Instrumental Music
Individual instruction in a classical music instrument is
available to any student through the
Instrumental Music Program. Any student is
eligible to study piano and string instruments. To study woodwind or brass
instruments, a student must be in Grade 4 or above or have approval of the
teacher. Instrumental lessons for Lower School and Grade 5 take
place after school in the 91st Street building; lessons for Grades 6 through 12
students occur during the school day.
Additional fees apply for both programs.
