In 2022-23 Spence Swimming was led by strong young swimmers, including, for the second consecutive year a multi-event individual NYSAIS Swim Championship Finalist.

 

The Spence Stingrays returned to the water in 2021-22 and led by an outstanding group of youngsters and buoyed by strong leadership and experience of the upperclassmen, the team made waves on their way to capturing 2nd place at the AAIS Swim Championships, their best team finish in over a decade.

 

At the 2022 NYSAIS Swim Championship, Spence had two individual medalists and all three relays scored for the school, marking the first time the program has scored 5 events at the NYSAIS Swim Championship. 

A challenging AAIS schedule prepares the team for a highly competitive AAIS postseason championship meet. In 2018-2019 Spence Swimming finished a strong campaign with a 4th place finish at the AAIS Championships and made their first appearance at the NYSAIS Championship. As a longtime AAIS swimming power, two of the league’s oldest records (200 Freestyle Relay and 100 Backstroke) are still held by Spence. Spence  also boasted back-to-back Academic All-America selections in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. In 2013, the Stingrays finished third at the AAIS championship.  

 

Practices are Monday through Friday. The team trains at Asphalt Green and Convent of the Sacred Heart, pools, as well as additional fitness training three times a week to prepare athletes to swim competitively in a variety of events and distances. Athletes are required to supply their own practice swimsuits, towels and goggles.
