Home of the Sabers: Fall 2019 and 2022 AAIS 2nd Place Team and 2019 NYSAIS 3rd Place Team

In 2022, the youthful Sabers raced their way to the podium, finishing 2nd at the AAIS Championship and had the third athlete in program history qualify for the prestigious NYS Federation Cross Country Championship, a race that features the top runners from public, Catholic, independent and PSAL schools across NY State.

 

In 2019, the Sabers had their finest season in the 11-year history of the program, finishing 2nd in the AAIS and 3rd at the NYSAIS Championships. Following up on a historic 2018 AAIS milestone, where the first time in program history, each of the Sabers' top-5 scoring runners earned medals in the AAIS Championship Race; in 2019 Sabers' top medalists were all 9th,10th or 11th graders, setting the stage for continued program growth and excellence in 2020.

 

In 2017, Spence had its second student-athlete qualify and compete in the NY State Federation Cross Country Championship, In the fall of 2015, Spence earned the team's first top three team finish in the program's short history.

 

With three AAIS and two NYSAIS medalists returning for the fall of 2023, the Sabers are focused on taking another step forward at both the AAIS Championship and the NYSAIS state meet. The team will count upon its depth and experience to build upon its now established foundation of success.

 

Practice is Monday through Friday and will most often be held in Central Park, and the team will also train on various other course terrains in preparation for AAIS and NYSAIS races conducted at Van Cortlandt Park. Athletes are required to run in proper running shoes
