Special Events

The Spence community has access to some of the world's most influential thinkers and leaders. Throughout the year, students, faculty, parents and alumnae are invited to academic lectures and other special events that help foster an intellectual and vibrant community of all ages.

The annual Head's Forum event brings to campus a scholar to present discussions focusing on an intellectually stimulating and provocative topic. Leading up to the public lecture, Upper School students and faculty do research and discuss the Head's Forum topic.

A.M. Perspectives is a series of informative talks by members of the Spence community. The early-morning speakers generously share their expertise and insights with parents, faculty, administrators and Upper School students. With a focus on a range of stimulating topics, the A.M. Perspectives offer an opportunity to share the richness of resources of the community.

Recent visiting artists, lecturers, and scholars have included Pulitzer-Prize winning author Jhumpa Lahiri, playwright J.T. Rogers, Metropolitan Museum curator Joan Mertens '64, artist Barnaby Furnas, novelist Sue Monk Kidd, choreographer Doug Varone and Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor.
