The Spence School is located in two buildings in the
Historic District of the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The Middle and Upper Schools, Grades 5
through 12, occupy 22 East 91st Street.
The beautifully restored landmark five-story Lower School building at 56
East 93rd Street is home to Kindergarten through Grade 4. The two buildings have the distinct feeling
of being one school, with the younger and older girls, staff and faculty,
spending time in both buildings.
In the Lower School, classrooms, technology, library,
science facilities and visual and performing arts spaces meet the express needs
of the school's youngest students. The
93rd Street gym, one of three at Spence, is enjoyed by all students. Lunch is eaten in the elegant dining room,
next to an enclosed outdoor playground. The building's 15 homerooms have been
designed to accommodate small classes, averaging 16-18 students, all with a warm, friendly, child-centered
atmosphere.
Middle and Upper School students enjoy a spacious and modern academic setting in the 91st Street building. The Middle School occupies two
floors with bright and cheerful classrooms and common areas. Two gyms, an assembly room and a dining room
are shared by the Middle and Upper Schools. A foreign language media lab, a black box theater, music room,
state-of-the-art science labs, visual arts studios, and a fitness room with a
full range of cardio-and weight-training equipment enrich the Upper School
program.
