Thank
you for your interest in being part of The Spence School community. Our faculty
members are experts in their disciplines who view education as a collaborative
process, a partnership between teachers and students.
Middle and Upper School
students are assigned advisors, faculty members who monitor the student’s
progress, serve as mentors and supervise extracurricular activities. Teachers
meet regularly with students for conferences and extra-help sessions outside of
class and provide guidance with academic and personal concerns. Through their
shared involvement in a variety of school activities, teachers and students get
to know each other well in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.

More
than two-thirds of the faculty has advanced degrees in their fields. Spence
strongly encourages professional development and advanced study for its faculty
by providing support through a variety of awards, grants and established funds.
In addition, a program of Curriculum and Technology Grants supports summer
research related to curriculum development.
Employment opportunities at Spence include positions in several administrative and staff
departments. These professional, non-teaching positions support the school's
academic functions in a variety of important ways.
The
school offers highly competitive salaries and excellent benefits, a dynamic
student body and multiple opportunities for professional growth.
Candidates from diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
